Almost every first knife purchase comes down to these two. They occupy similar price brackets, they are both status items, and they are genuinely different to own.

Animation

The Butterfly has the longest and most elaborate inspect in the game — the flipping sequence is the whole reason for its popularity. The Karambit’s is shorter but has a distinctive spin. Deploy animations follow the same pattern: the Butterfly is slower and showier.

How finishes read on each

The Butterfly’s flat, wide blade displays gradient finishes beautifully — Fade and Marble Fade look their best here. The Karambit’s curve breaks up gradients but carries busy patterns superbly, which is why Case Hardened and Gamma Doppler Karambits are so sought after.

Price

They trade close to each other, with the Butterfly usually slightly ahead in the popular finishes. In plainer finishes — Boreal Forest, Safari Mesh, Forest DDPAT, Stained — both drop substantially, and those are the sensible entry points if you want the model more than the pattern.

• Buy the Karambit if you want the icon, if you prefer a compact viewmodel, or if you are buying a patterned finish like Case Hardened or Doppler.
• Buy the Butterfly if the animation is the point, or if you want a Fade or Marble Fade where the blade area is doing the work.
